A while ago, I shared a visual with a peer in my coaching community- to help her see what was really going on in her world.
I’ve been seeing the story doing the rounds in a community we’re both in, and it made me realise how powerful it can be to reflect something back in a way that sticks.
So I thought I’d share it here too....because maybe it’ll meet you where you are:
Imagine your wider community- your friends, your family, your peers.
You’re all at a party at the bottom of a mountain.
It’s a wonderful party.
Festival vibes.
There’s music, great food, and as evening draws in, the twinkly lights come on. The weather’s balmy.
It’s joyful. It feels like belonging.
But while everyone else is chilling and laughing- you’re eyeing that mountain.
You feel the pull to climb.
Not for the achievement, but because something in you knows you’re meant to.
You want the challenge. The quiet. The altitude. The view.
You want to see what’s up there.
Here’s the truth that hits hard if we don’t face it early:
When you ask, “Who’s coming with me?”- you’ll be lucky if 1% put their hand up.
Most people at base camp have no interest in the mountain.
Not in climbing it.
Not in wondering what’s up there.
Not even in looking at it.
They might be kind.
Supportive.
Curious, even.
But they’re not coming with you.
Only a small handful will feel the pull of the mountain.
The trick is to notice who lights up when you talk about the climb.
Those are your people.
They’re the 1%.
It’s not personal.
It’s not about who’s better or further ahead.
It’s just about direction.
You can love base camp.
You can visit.
You can wave on the way past.
But if the mountain is calling, you already know-
you can’t wait for permission.
Find your 1%.
Start walking.
